I descend from a Major John Polhemus, 1st New Jersey Regiment or The New Jersey Blues. According to his memoirs, it was Major Polhemus who first came to Lafayette’s aid when he was wounded at Brandywine. John Polhemus married Susanna Hart who was the daughter of John Hart, signer of The Declaration of Independence.
